Two luxury Self-catering Holiday cottages on the shores of the Derryhick Lake, between Castlebar and Pontoon in Co. Mayo. An Ideal starting point when visiting the West of Ireland.

The cottages are located on a 3.5 acre site with extensive frontage to the Derryhick Lake and are about 1 mile from the main (R310) Castlebar – Pontoon – Ballina road. Castlebar (the modern capital of county Mayo) is about 7 miles (11 kilometres) from your holiday cottage and Pontoon (between lough Conn and Lough Cullen) about 4 miles (6 kilometres).

The Atlantic coast with numerous blue flag beaches and main tourist town Westport are only 18 miles (25 kilometres) or a half an hour’s drive away. We have detailed directions to our cottages from Dublin, Shannon and Knock It is an ideal location for Angling, exploring the West or just relaxing.

The Mayo coastline covers around 700 km with a variety of different angling possibilities. From sandy beaches to steep clifs, off-shore islands, estuaries, rocky shores and off-shore reefs. Almost 50 different species can be caught regular from these waters. It is wise to get local advise on where best to fish, on what species and with what bait. Good information can also be found on www.sea-angling-ireland.org. There are boats from different harbours which can take you out fishing in Clew bay, around the islands, the Moy estuary and in the Atlantic Ocean.

Just to name a few species that you can catch from the shore: Pollock, Coalfish, Wrasse, Dogfish, Ray, Mackerel, Bull huss, Flounder, Turbot, Mullet, Conger and many others.
